Our Work
Our annual Dialogues workshop aims to create a collaborative space for community leaders, policymakers, social entrepreneurs, and all those who work hard for the betterment of their communities. If you were at the PLACE Dialogues on Fogo Island in 2018 or Petty Harbour in 2019, you will recall how energizing and regenerative it is to spend time in rural community NL with fellow community leaders. The Dialogues provide a forum to discuss place-based community development and revitalization using the PLACE Framework as a guide. The PLACE Framework represents five core principles that underlie successful community development: Promoting community leaders, Linking divergent perspectives, Amplifying local capacities and assets, Conveying compelling stories, and Engaging both/and thinking. The acronym PLACE was intentionally chosen to honour community leaders’ historical and cultural attachment to their place, which motivated them to launch community development initiatives, despite the many barriers they have encountered.
